Our land records go back to 1820 and we are in digital form back to May of 1963. Prior to 1963 items are in books in our office. To obtain a copy of the document, you can come into our office or contact us by phone or email. Copies are $1 per page. If emailed it’s an additional $2.00 plus a dollar per page.<\/p>\n

Duties of Recorder of Deeds<\/h3>\n

Recording land instruments, including deeds of trust, affidavits, releases, power of attorneys, plats and surveys, military discharge records (DD214) and others.\u00a0 Recording can be done in person in our office or by mail and if sending by mail send a self-addressed stamped envelope to be mailed back, E-Recording is now available with icounty 816-295-1540.<\/p>\n

What should I do if I believe I am the victim of Deed Fraud?<\/h3>\n

If\u00a0 you receive a notification of a document being filed, please contact the Recording of Deeds by calling 816-776-4500 for more information regarding the filing.<\/p>\n

Please note: The Recorder of Deeds cannot remove a recorded document from the public record without a court order issued by a judge. If you believe you are the victim of deed fraud, it is recommended you speak with an attorney. You can also report suspected fraudulent documents to local law enforcement, such as the appropriate city police or the Ray County Sheriff’s office.<\/p>\n

Marriage licenses<\/h3>\n

NEW LAW<\/strong> \u2013 Will take effect starting August 28, 2025 which requires both parties to be 18 years old or older in order for us to issue a marriage license. NO\u00a0 EXCEPTIONS like Parental Consent is ALLOWED on August 28th<\/sup> or after.<\/p>\n

Both parties must appear with photo ID for application process.\u00a0 Cost is $53 either in cash or debit\/credit card.\u00a0 \u00a0No checks.<\/u>\u00a0 If you have been married before know month and year of divorce.<\/p>\n

For a Real ID here is what you will need<\/h3>\n

You will need a certified copy of your marriage license (all of them if you have been married more than once).<\/p>\n

You can obtain a certified copy of your marriage license in our Ray County Recorder\u2019s Office (as long as you Applied for your Marriage License here.)<\/p>\n
